About Used Acura TLX Parts

On the Acura TLX the generation AND the engine decide fitment, because the same 'TLX' badge covers two completely different drivetrains: the first-gen car (2015–2020) came as either a 2.4L four with an 8-speed dual-clutch or a 3.5L V6 with a 9-speed automatic, and the second-gen car (2021+) is an all-turbo redesign whose 2.0L turbo four and 3.0L Type S turbo V6 don't cross back to gen 1. Add front-wheel drive vs SH-AWD, and a part chosen by year alone can be wrong three ways over — so send the full 17-digit VIN and we'll match the exact drivetrain.

Generations & fitment boundaries

The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.

  • 2015–2020 (1st gen (UB1/UB2/UB3)) — First TLX, replacing the TL and TSX. Split drivetrains: a 2.4L four (FWD) with an 8-speed dual-clutch, or a 3.5L V6 with a 9-speed automatic offered in FWD or SH-AWD — SH-AWD was V6-only. Match the engine and transmission together, not just the year.
  • 2021–present (2nd gen (UB5/UB6/UB7)) — Ground-up redesign on a new platform, all-turbo: a 2.0L turbo four and the 3.0L turbo V6 Type S. Do NOT cross gen 1 and gen 2 parts — different engines, transmission and electronics. Confirm the Type S separately; it's its own animal.
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart

First-gen TLX buyers are shopping one of two very different drivetrains. The 2.4L K24 four pairs with an 8-speed dual-clutch (DCT), while the 3.5L J35 V6 pairs with a 9-speed automatic — different engines, different transmissions, no interchange between them. Because Acura is Honda's premium brand, the K24 four and the J35 V6 are the shared Honda families used across models like the Accord — so a used engine can come from the Honda side when the exact code and generation match, but order by the stamped code, not '2.4' or '3.5.'

The second-gen TLX shares nothing drivetrain-wise with gen 1. It moved to a 2.0L turbo four (K20C) and, in the Type S, a 3.0L turbo V6 — an all-turbo redesign, so a gen-1 engine or transmission will not stand in for a gen-2 car and vice versa. Drivetrain also splits the parts bin: SH-AWD (Acura's torque-vectoring all-wheel drive) carries a rear differential, propshaft and rear hardware a front-drive TLX doesn't have — and on gen 1 it was paired only with the V6, never the 2.4 four — so match FWD vs SH-AWD before ordering driveline parts.

Known issues that drive used-part demand
  • The first-gen 8-speed dual-clutch behind the 2.4 four drew early complaints about low-speed shift quality and hesitation; the V6's 9-speed automatic had its own early shift-quality reputation. On a used transmission, confirm any control-software updates were applied and have shift quality checked by a mechanic — an automatic or DCT is a driveline part, not a guess-and-go swap.
  • Match the engine to the exact code and generation. '3.5 V6' and '2.4 four' are gen-1 only; a gen-2 car needs its turbo 2.0 (K20C) or the 3.0T. Have any oil-use, misfire or check-engine complaint diagnosed before assuming a used long block is the fix — reputation items deserve a mechanic's look, not a guess.
  • Coding on the electronics: a used PCM/ECM that carries the Honda/Acura anti-theft function must be programmed to your VIN and re-synced to your keys, or the car cranks but won't start. Most mechanical parts — long block, transmission, axles — install without coding; plan a key/immobilizer relearn whenever the PCM or key system is replaced.

Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Used Acura TLX Parts — FAQ

Will an engine from another TLX year fit mine?

Only within the same generation and engine. Gen 1 (2015–2020) is a 2.4L four or a 3.5L V6; gen 2 (2021+) is an all-turbo redesign — a 2.0L turbo four or the 3.0L Type S turbo V6 — that doesn't cross back to gen 1. Match the exact engine code and generation, not just the displacement, and send your VIN so we match the variant.

Can I use a Honda engine in my TLX?

Often yes within the same generation and code, because Acura is Honda's premium brand and shares the K24 four and J35 V6 with models like the Accord. It must match the exact stamped code, generation and the TLX's accessories and tune — order by the code, not the badge — and keep body and SH-AWD driveline parts to an Acura donor with the same drivetrain.

Does a used TLX engine computer need programming?

Yes when it carries the immobilizer. A used PCM/ECM must be programmed to your VIN and re-synced to your keys, or the Honda/Acura anti-theft system blocks starting. Most mechanical parts install without coding; plan a key/immobilizer relearn whenever the PCM or key system is replaced.

Is the 3.5 V6 in my 2015-2020 Acura TLX under an engine recall?

Yes, in part. NHTSA campaign 23V751000 covers certain 2015-2020 TLX, 2016-2020 MDX, 2016 and 2018-2019 Pilot, 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline and 2018-2019 Odyssey vehicles: a manufacturing error can let a connecting rod bearing wear and seize, damaging the engine. Dealers inspect and repair or replace the engine under the campaign. The Honda donor pool sits inside it too, so check any donor VIN.

Do rear suspension parts from a front-drive TLX fit an SH-AWD TLX?

Not the P-AWS pieces. Acura makes Precision All-Wheel Steer standard on two-wheel-drive first-generation TLX models, and lists its key parts as independent electrically assisted left and right toe-control actuators, special control arms and suspension uprights, plus a control unit linked to the steering, stability and brake systems. Acura presents P-AWS as the front-drive counterpart to SH-AWD, so treat those rear parts as front-drive only.

Will 2021 TLX front struts or control arms fit my 2019 TLX?

No. Acura built the 2015-2020 TLX with a MacPherson strut front suspension, then put the 2021 car on an all-new, Acura-exclusive sport sedan platform whose front end uses two wishbone-shaped control arms in place of the strut layout. That changes how the knuckle, arms and damper mount, so front suspension parts do not cross the 2020 to 2021 line in either direction.

Do TLX Type S brakes and wheels fit a standard 2021 or newer TLX?

Treat the brakes and wheels as Type S only. Acura gives the Type S four-piston Brembo front calipers on rotors 14.3 inches across and 1.2 inches thick, which it calls 1.3 inches larger in diameter than the standard car's, plus 20-inch wheels on 255/35R20 tires and standard SH-AWD. Its Adaptive Damper System is shared with the Advance package, so name your exact trim with your quote request.
