About Used Lexus RX Parts

The RX is Lexus's best-selling crossover, and because it shares Toyota's 3.5L V6 platform your used-parts pool is far bigger than Lexus stock alone — many engine, transmission and driveline parts cross with the Toyota Highlander of the same generation. But fitment turns on the engine code, generation and gas-versus-hybrid, not the '3.5L' badge, so read the code off the block and match your VIN before buying.

Generations & fitment boundaries

The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.

  • 2010–2015 (AL10 (3rd gen)) — The RX 350 runs Toyota's 3.5L 2GR-FE V6, while the RX 450h pairs that V6 with a hybrid system. This generation shares its platform with the contemporary Toyota Highlander.
  • 2016–2022 (AL20 (4th gen)) — The RX 350 moved to the updated 3.5L 2GR-FKS V6 (D-4S injection), with the RX 450h hybrid continuing on the V6. The 2GR-FE to 2GR-FKS change is the boundary that breaks V6 interchange between AL10 and AL20.
  • 2023–present (5th gen) — The 2023+ RX is a clean break from the earlier V6 cars — confirm the exact 2023+ engine separately. Parts don't carry over from the V6-era AL10/AL20 cars — don't assume anything crosses.
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart

On the V6-era RX (2010–2022) there are two different 3.5L V6s. Through the AL10 it's the port-injected 2GR-FE; the AL20 uses the 2GR-FKS with Toyota's D-4S direct/port injection. They share the 2GR family but differ in fuel system and electronics, so they're not a plug-and-play swap — crossing that line needs the matching ECU and usually harness work. Order by the code stamped on the block, not by '3.5L.'

The shared-Toyota platform is the RX's real sourcing advantage. The 2GR-FKS also lives in the Toyota Highlander, Camry and Sienna of the same era, so a used engine can come from a Toyota donor of the matching generation; the earlier 2GR-FE adds the 2GR-FE-era RAV4 to that pool as well. But accessories, brackets, oil pan and mounts differ by application, and body panels, interior trim and some accessories stay RX-specific — so match a same-code engine to your VIN and keep body/trim to a Lexus donor.

Driveline and hybrid split the parts further. The RX comes in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and AWD-specific parts (transfer/coupling, propshaft, rear differential and rear-suspension pieces) don't carry over from a FWD car. The RX 450h hybrid runs its own electrified transaxle, high-voltage battery, inverter and an electric rear axle for AWD — those are hybrid-only parts and must not be sourced from or for a gas RX 350.

Known issues that drive used-part demand
  • V6 water pumps and the timing-cover/valve-cover seals are common high-mileage wear items on the 2GR family. When pricing a used long block, factor whether these have been serviced.
  • The RX 450h's high-voltage system (transaxle, battery, inverter, electric rear axle) is hybrid-only and demands proper high-voltage handling — route any hybrid-system fault to a technician trained on high-voltage work, and confirm gas vs hybrid by VIN before sourcing any powertrain part.

Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Used Lexus RX Parts — FAQ

Will a 2GR-FE V6 interchange with a 2GR-FKS RX?

Not directly. Through the 2010–2015 AL10 the RX 350 uses the port-injected 2GR-FE; from the 2016 AL20 it's the direct-injected 2GR-FKS. They share the family but use different fuel systems and electronics, so crossing the split needs the matching ECU and often harness work. Match by engine code and VIN.

Do RX 450h hybrid parts fit a gas RX 350?

Not the powertrain parts. The 450h has its own transaxle, high-voltage battery, inverter and electric rear axle that a gas RX 350 doesn't have. Many body and chassis parts share; the electrified components do not. Confirm gas vs hybrid by VIN.

Does the RX 350 share parts with the Toyota Highlander?

Yes — the RX rides on Toyota's shared 3.5L V6 platform, so many engine, transmission and driveline parts cross with the Highlander (and Camry and Sienna) of the same generation. That widens your donor pool, but accessories, mounts and body/trim differ, so still VIN-match. Send your VIN.

Does my RX 350 have the 6-speed or the 8-speed automatic?

It depends on year and trim. Lexus lists the 2013 RX 350 with a six-speed ECT-i automatic but the 2013 RX 350 F SPORT with an eight-speed and paddle shifters, and the 2016 redesign made an eight-speed the RX 350's standard transmission. So an F SPORT does not share a gearbox with the standard RX parked beside it. Match the tag on the case, not the badge.

Will RX 350L three-row parts fit a two-row RX 350?

Not the rear body. Lexus extended the RX 350L body 4.3 inches at the rear to make room for the third row and gave it a steeper tailgate window angle than the two-row models, so the liftgate, rear glass, rear quarter area and rear bumper are L-specific. Don't order rear body panels off a two-row car - say whether your VIN is an L when you send a quote request.

Will a 2012 RX 350 front bumper or headlight fit a 2013?

No. Lexus restyled the RX front end for 2013 with the spindle grille, a new bumper and a new headlamp design with LED daytime running lights, so front panels and lamps split at that year even though both cars sit in the same 2010-2015 generation. A Sport Appearance Package car adds its own front bumper and halogen headlamps again. Order body parts by year and package.

Is the RX 450h's 3.5 V6 the same engine as the RX 350's?

No, not even in the same year. At the fourth-generation launch Lexus lists the RX 350's V6 as the 2GR-FKS and the RX 450h's as the 2GR-FXS, a hybrid-specific engine matched to a hybrid front transaxle and, on all-wheel-drive cars, a rear transaxle. So a 3.5 V6 for an RX is not one part number family: gas and hybrid carry different engine codes.
