About Used Buick Parts

Buick's Enclave and Encore share GM underpinnings with Chevrolet and GMC, giving used Buick parts solid availability and value. V6 and turbocharged four-cylinder engines are the most common repairs.

  • Popular models: Enclave, Encore
  • Shares GM platforms (Chevrolet/GMC)
  • Common V6 & turbo-four engines
Common platforms & generations in salvage

Buick's value in the used-parts market is that almost everything shares GM mechanicals, so the donor pool is wide. The Enclave is the flagship example: it rides on GM's Lambda platform in its first generation and the C1XX platform in its second, sharing its 3.6L V6, transmission and much of the drivetrain with the Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia — so Enclave mechanical parts often cross-reference to those SUVs. The subcompact Encore uses GM's Gamma platform with a 1.4L turbo-four shared with the Chevrolet Trax.

The car side is the LaCrosse full-size sedan and the Regal midsize, which used GM's Epsilon-family architecture with four-cylinder (2.4/2.5) and 3.6 V6 or 2.0L turbo engines depending on trim and year — verify the exact engine by VIN before ordering.

Known Buick failure patterns to check
  • On early direct-injection 3.6 V6s in the Enclave, confirm engine and timing-service history before buying a used 3.6 — have a shop verify it rather than assuming.
  • Lambda-platform SUVs (Enclave/Traverse/Acadia) commonly need water pump and power-steering attention with age — a shared trait, not Enclave-specific.
  • LaCrosse and Regal with the 2.4 eAssist mild-hybrid setup have a small high-voltage battery and unique components — if yours has the eAssist battery, route any hybrid-electrical fault to professional diagnosis, not a swap.

Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Fitment traps that break interchange
  • Enclave first generation (Lambda) vs second generation (C1XX) do not share major body or drivetrain parts — match the generation, not just 'Enclave.'
  • Encore vs Encore GX: the GX is a newer, different platform with different small turbo engines — they are NOT the same vehicle and parts don't cross.
  • FWD vs AWD on the Enclave, Encore and sedans changes drivetrain parts — confirm before ordering.
  • LaCrosse/Regal 2.4 eAssist vs 3.6 V6 vs 2.0T are different engine/transmission combinations — don't cross them.
Where to find the engine code & VIN

GM stamps the build spec as RPO (Regular Production Option) codes on the Service Parts Identification (SPID) label — usually in the glovebox, console lid or a door jamb — and those codes name the exact engine, transmission and axle ratio, often more precisely than the VIN for option and axle interchange. The 17-digit VIN's 8th character is also the engine code; use the RPO label and VIN together.

Which Buick parts need coding after install

Plan for programming on GM electronics: a used ECM/PCM, body control module (BCM), instrument cluster or keys generally must be programmed/relearned to your VIN with GM's service tools before the vehicle runs right, and immobilizer keys must be re-learned — budget a dealer or equipped locksmith. Engines, transmissions and mechanical parts install without coding.

Why Buy Used Buick Parts?

A used part can be a lower-cost alternative to new OEM, especially for an out-of-warranty Buick. The value depends on correct fitment, condition, warranty and return terms, shipping, and the final price.

  • Vehicle details — share the VIN or exact Buick configuration for fitment review.
  • Terms before purchase — review warranty and return terms in writing.
  • Condition information — ask for available photos, mileage, and inspection details.
  • Shipping options — confirm options for the part size and destination.

Used Buick Parts — FAQ

Do Buick Enclave parts interchange with the Chevrolet Traverse or GMC Acadia?

Many mechanical parts do. The Enclave shares GM's Lambda (first gen) and C1XX (second gen) platforms with the Traverse and Acadia, so the 3.6 V6, transmission and much of the drivetrain cross-reference — a wider, cheaper donor pool. Match the generation and drivetrain first.

Are Buick Encore and Encore GX parts the same?

No. Despite the shared name, the Encore GX is a newer, different platform with different small turbo engines, so parts don't interchange with the original Encore. Confirm exactly which one you have before ordering.

How do I confirm the exact engine and axle on my Buick before ordering?

Read the GM RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification (SPID) label, usually in the glovebox or console lid — they name the exact engine, transmission and axle ratio. Cross-check with the VIN's 8th-digit engine code.

Is my 2018 Buick Regal an Opel Insignia underneath?

Essentially yes. North American 2018-2020 Regal Sportback and TourX models were built alongside their Insignia siblings at Opel's plant in Ruesselsheim, Germany, and the previous Regal generation, through 2017, shared GM's Epsilon II architecture with the Insignia as well. GM was selling Opel to PSA as that car launched, so match the body style and generation rather than assuming any Insignia part crosses.

Does a Buick Encore GX share its engine with the Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Yes. The Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer share the VSS-F platform and the same turbocharged three-cylinder engines, so the donor pool is wider than Buick alone. The split that matters is drive type: EPA lists the front-drive 1.3 with a continuously variable automatic and the all-wheel-drive 1.3 with a nine-speed automatic. Confirm engine and drivetrain before ordering a gearbox.

Which other GM cars used the Buick 3800 V6?

A long list across four GM divisions, which is why the donor pool is broad. The naturally aspirated L36 ran in the Park Avenue and LeSabre and in Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac models such as the Impala and Grand Prix. Do not cross it with the supercharged L67 or L32: those use different cylinder heads, a different lower intake manifold, a larger throttle body and different injectors.

Buick dropped its sedans - can I still get LaCrosse parts?

Sourcing one is a generation question, not a brand one. The 2010-2016 LaCrosse used GM's long-wheelbase Epsilon II architecture, shared with the Cadillac XTS and related to the 2014-2019 Chevrolet Impala; the 2017-2019 car was re-engineered on a newer architecture and is a different vehicle. Buick's last US car was the 2020 Regal, so send the VIN with your quote request.
