About This Throttle Body
A used throttle body is a sensible way back from a stalling or limp-mode fault, provided you buy the right type and plan for a relearn. Start with which system your car uses. A cable throttle is opened by the pedal through a cable; an electronic throttle control system has no mechanical linkage at all and is made of three parts - an accelerator pedal module with two or more independent sensors, a throttle body opened by an electric motor, and the engine control module running closed-loop feedback from the throttle position sensors. That matters twice over: an electronic throttle body is a motor and sensors in one housing, so connector and part number must match exactly, and the fault you are chasing might sit in the pedal module or wiring rather than the throttle body. Then expect a relearn - the module has to be taught the new plate positions after fitting.
Because every throttle body quote is matched to your Ford Escape by VIN, you get a part that fits the first time and keeps your repair on budget.

Before you order, it helps to read:
Common Signs Your Throttle Body May Need Replacing
- A hunting, surging or erratic idle, or a stall as you come off the throttle
- Reduced-power or limp mode with a throttle-control warning on the dash
- Delayed, dead or inconsistent response at the pedal
- A throttle actuator control or throttle position circuit fault code
- A throttle plate that sticks or hangs so the pedal feels like it catches
- An idle that will not settle after a battery disconnect or a cleaning
Symptoms vary by vehicle and driving conditions. Always confirm diagnosis before replacement.
What to Check When Buying a Used Throttle Body
- Establish cable versus electronic throttle control first - they are not the same part
- Match the part number and connector, pin count included - an electronic unit carries the motor and position sensors in one housing
- Have the accelerator pedal module and wiring ruled out first - they are part of the same system
- Plan for a throttle and idle relearn with a scan tool, and check what your vehicle's procedure demands
- Inspect the bore and plate for heavy carbon, scoring, or bare patches where someone has scraped a coated bore
- Confirm the plate moves smoothly and returns cleanly - many throttle bodies have a non-stick coating that aggressive cleaning destroys
Ask for these details and any available photos before approving a purchase.

How Pricing Is Determined
Pricing for used throttle body depends on several factors:
- Vehicle year, make, model, and engine configuration
- Mileage and overall condition of the donor vehicle
- Supplier location and shipping distance
- Warranty coverage offered
Throttle body quotes turn on how much is built into the unit. A cable body is a simpler part than an electronic one, which houses a geared motor and position sensors matched to a specific engine and connector. Bore, mounting pattern and connector all narrow the donor pool. Remember the relearn too: on most electronic systems the module must be taught the new plate positions with a scan tool, a service separate from the part. We do not display prices - request a quote and review the written terms before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a used throttle body need a relearn after fitting?
On an electronic throttle system, assume yes. The module holds learned throttle-plate position data that a replacement unit does not match, which shows up as a rough or hunting idle or a stall right after start-up. The procedure is manufacturer-specific and conditional: Nissan's published idle relearn only completes with no stored codes, the engine and transmission at operating temperature, the wheels straight, every electrical load off and a steady idle, and it needs a scan tool able to clear codes. Budget for it.
Is a cable throttle body interchangeable with a drive-by-wire one?
No. In an electronic throttle control system there is no mechanical linkage between pedal and throttle valve - the pedal is a sensor module, the valve is opened by an electric motor in the throttle body, and the control module closes the loop using the throttle position sensors. A cable body has none of that hardware. Match the system you have, then the connector.
Should I just clean my throttle body instead of replacing it?
Cleaning is worth trying when the plate is sticking, but it can create problems. Many throttle bodies have a non-stick coating inside that metal scrapers strip off, and spraying cleaner straight at the plate can let it wick into the circuit board and motor. On a drive-by-wire unit, forcing the plate by hand with the ignition on can upset the learned position so the engine will not run until a scan tool relearns it. A used unit sold as "cleaned" may have been cleaned badly.
My code reader says P2111, throttle body stuck open. Is the plate really jammed?
Not necessarily. NHTSA's investigation into 2009-2013 Ford Escape, Fusion, Mariner and Milan with 2.5L and 3.0L engines found that of 59,807 throttle body replacement claims, about half carried P2111, throttle body stuck open, or P2112, stuck closed, and Ford described failures that set those codes where the valve was not actually stuck. The fault sat inside the throttle motor. Have it diagnosed before you order.
The dash says Reduced Engine Power and the code is P2138. Is that the throttle body?
P2138 is not a throttle body code. GM bulletin 07-06-04-019F, covering 2018 and earlier GM passenger cars and light duty trucks, ties an intermittent check engine light with a Reduced Engine Power message and DTC P2138, accelerator pedal position sensor 1-2 correlation, to water intrusion into the instrument panel to body harness connector that carries the pedal signals, from leaks such as A-pillar seals or sunroof drains.
My high-mileage V8 surges at idle and hesitates on tip-in. Is the throttle body worn out?
Often it is carbon rather than wear. GM preliminary information PIP4578B, covering 2006-2018 V8 Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick, Hummer, Pontiac and Saab models, says that as carbon builds up in the throttle body of a high mileage vehicle the engine computer compensates by increasing the throttle plate angle, producing idle surge, deceleration surge, tip-in hesitation, reduced power mode and codes including P2101 and P2119.
Will a used electronic throttle body just fail the same way mine did?
It can, so ask what the donor was. In the Ford case NHTSA reviewed, high resistance material built up on the throttle motor's commutator, giving intermittent electrical connectivity and reduced engine power. Ford and its suppliers then changed the motor's internal design, surface finish and material composition and added a key-on motor cleaning cycle to the powertrain software, so a same-vintage donor can still carry the original weakness.
