About Used Jeep Compass Parts

A 2017 Jeep Compass is two different vehicles. Jeep built the old Belvidere Compass through 23 December 2016 and started the all-new Toluca Compass on 16 January 2017, and EPA lists them separately as "2017 Jeep Compass" and "2017 Jeep New Compass." They share a badge and little else, so pin the body down first.

Generations & fitment boundaries

The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.

  • 2007–2016 (First generation, Caliber-derived unibody (Belvidere, Illinois)) — Jeep said at launch that the Compass underbody architecture was shared with the Dodge Caliber for platform compatibility, then modified to be uniquely Jeep, and that one durability cycle was created to test Compass and Patriot. Belvidere built all three. Engines are 2.0L and 2.4L fours, with a 5-speed manual or a CVT.
  • 2017 (Overlap year — two different vehicles) — The commonest source of wrong Compass orders: the outgoing Compass and the all-new one were both sold as 2017s, and EPA lists them as two separate vehicles with different transmissions. A 2017 part number means nothing until you know which body it is for.
  • 2017–2022 (Second generation, FCA small-wide 4x4 architecture (Toluca, Mexico)) — A different vehicle on a different architecture — one FCA says the Jeep Renegade also uses, with the Compass lengthened 2.6 inches over it. North American cars use the 2.4L MultiAir Tigershark at 180 hp: 9-speed automatic on 4x4, 6-speed automatic on 4x2, 6-speed manual on either.
  • 2023–present (Second generation, 2.0L turbo, 4x4 only) — Another clean break. For 2023 Jeep made a 2.0L turbocharged four standard across the lineup at 200 hp on an 8-speed automatic, with Active Drive 4x4 standard on every model — and EPA lists only 4WD Compasses from 2023 on.
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart

Two things separate the two 2017 Compasses. The plant: the old car came from Belvidere, Illinois and the new one from Toluca, Mexico, which NHTSA's free VIN decoder reports from your VIN. And the transmission: EPA lists the old 2017 Compass with a CVT and a 5-speed manual among its options, and the new one never offered either.

First-generation drivetrains come three ways and do not swap for one another: front-wheel drive, Freedom Drive I full-time active 4x4 with a lockable center coupling, or the Freedom Drive II Off-road Package, whose transaxle is a CVT with low range (CVT2L). Engines are the 2.0L World Gas Engine at 158 hp and the 2.4L World Engine at 172 hp, and the 6F24 6-speed automatic only arrived for 2014.

On the second-generation car the transmission follows the drivetrain, not the trim badge, and the 4x4 hardware splits as well: Jeep Active Drive against the Trailhawk's Active Drive Low and its 20:1 crawl ratio.

Known issues that drive used-part demand
  • Check 2.4L engine campaigns against the donor, not just your own car. NHTSA 13V552000 covers 2014 Compass and Patriot 2.4L engines that can lose oil pressure from abrasive debris in the balance shaft bearings, risking stall or failure. 16V907000 covers 2016 Compass, Patriot and Dodge Journey for a crank or cam sensor that may work only intermittently. 17V670000 covers 2018 Compass and Cherokee 2.4L engines with a cracked oil pump housing.
  • Restraint electronics on first-generation cars: campaign 16V668000 covers 2010–2014 Compass and Patriot, with Caliber, Avenger, 200 and Sebring, for an Occupant Restraint Control module that can short and stop the airbags and pretensioners deploying. 13V233000 covers 2010–2012 Compass and Patriot for a software error that can delay or prevent side-curtain deployment. Restraint work belongs with a qualified shop.
  • Second-generation chassis and driveline: 17V301000 covers certain 2017 Compasses with a 6-speed transmission whose left front halfshaft can disengage or break, and 18V279000 covers 2018 cars with badly welded front lower control arms that can separate — buy both VIN-matched and fitted professionally. Two more travel with the used part itself: 17V740000 (2017–2018 cluster backlighting not dimmable, FMVSS 101) and 22V248000 (2022 front head restraints badly welded, FMVSS 202).

Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Most-requested used Compass parts

For a 2017, tell us the plant or the transmission type so we can pin the body. Otherwise send the full VIN, the year, the engine (2.0L, 2.4L or the 2023-on 2.0L turbo), 4x2 or 4x4, and the 4x4 system: Freedom Drive I or II, Active Drive or Active Drive Low. Typical requests are engines, transaxles, halfshafts, control arms and headlamps. We quote against your VIN.

  • Vehicle details — include your VIN or full Jeep Compass configuration for fitment review.
  • Terms before purchase — review the written warranty and return terms.
  • Shipping options — confirm the applicable method, timing, and cost for your destination.

Used Jeep Compass Parts — FAQ

I have a 2017 Jeep Compass — how do I tell which generation it is?

Check the plant and the transmission. The outgoing car was built at Belvidere, Illinois through 23 December 2016 and the all-new one began at Toluca, Mexico on 16 January 2017; NHTSA's free VIN decoder reports the plant city from your VIN. Only the old car offered a CVT or a 5-speed manual.

Do first-generation Compass parts interchange with the Patriot or Dodge Caliber?

Some components clearly share sourcing: Jeep said the Compass underbody architecture was shared with the Caliber, Belvidere built all three, and NHTSA campaigns repeatedly group Compass with Patriot and Caliber on the same modules and engines. That is not an interchange guarantee — tell us if a Patriot or Caliber donor is acceptable and we will confirm by part number.

Will a 2022 Compass engine or transmission fit a 2023?

No. Through 2022 the Compass used the 2.4L Tigershark with a 6-speed automatic on 4x2 or a 9-speed on 4x4. For 2023 Jeep made a 200-horsepower 2.0L turbocharged four standard with an 8-speed automatic, and Active Drive 4x4 standard on every model — different engine, different transmission, no 4x2 at all.

Did the 2.0L Jeep Compass ever come with four-wheel drive?

Not in the US. In EPA's year-by-year listings for the first-generation car, every 4WD Compass is a 2.4, and the 2.0-litre appears only under the 2WD heading EPA used through 2013 and the FWD heading it used from 2014. So a Freedom Drive I or Freedom Drive II car is a 2.4 car, and a 2.0 donor is a front-drive vehicle whose engine and transaxle were never sold behind Jeep's 4x4 hardware.

Is a 2011 Jeep Compass the same body as a 2010?

No, and this is the split people miss inside the first generation. Jeep's 2011 Compass press material lists a new hood, new front fenders, a new fascia, new headlamps and a new grille, plus a new rear fascia, new LED taillamps, a body-color rear spoiler and added protective cladding. Front and rear body parts and lighting from a 2007-2010 car do not carry over, and the door trim and steering wheel changed too.

My 2012 Jeep Compass stalls when the tank gets low - bad fuel pump?

Check two campaigns before you buy a pump. NHTSA 13V120000 covers 2012 Compass and Patriot built 18 October 2011 to 7 May 2012 with an incorrectly made fuel tank transfer tube: fuel may not move from the secondary side of the tank to the primary side, and the engine stalls. NHTSA 12V142000 covers a damaged roll-over valve in the tank on a narrower build window. Fuel work belongs with a professional.
