About Used Mitsubishi Outlander Parts
Two different Mitsubishis wear the Outlander name, and ordering the wrong one is the most common Outlander parts mistake: the Outlander and the Outlander Sport are separate vehicles with separate parts and separate recall year ranges. Then, within the Outlander itself, 2022 starts a car built on Nissan mechanicals. Tell us which nameplate, which year and which engine.
Generations & fitment boundaries
The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.
- 2007–2013 (2nd gen (CW)) — Mitsubishi GS platform. In the US the last year, 2013, was listed with a 2.4L four on a CVT or a 3.0L V6 on a 6-speed automatic, in both 2WD and 4WD.
- 2014–2020 (3rd gen (GF/GG)) — Still the GS platform, sharing it with the Outlander Sport and Eclipse Cross. The 2.4L CVT stays; the 3.0L V6 with its 6-speed automatic is now listed only on 4WD models.
- 2018–2022 (Outlander PHEV (3rd gen)) — A separate parts car: a 2.0L four for 2018–2020, a 2.4L four from 2021, and a single-speed drive unit rather than the CVT.
- 2022–present (4th gen (GM/GN), CMF-CD) — Based on the Nissan Rogue and X-Trail (T33) on the Renault–Nissan CMF-CD platform, with the Nissan PR25DD 2.5L four and a Jatco CVT8. No V6 at any trim.
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart
The Outlander Sport is not a trim of the Outlander. It is Mitsubishi's subcompact crossover, sold as the RVR in Canada and Japan and the ASX elsewhere. It shares the GS platform with the third-generation Outlander and borrows components from it, but it is a shorter five-seat vehicle with its own body and parts. NHTSA treats them as separate models and gives them different affected years inside the same campaign: one parking-brake recall covers 2014–2016 Outlanders but 2013–2016 Outlander Sports.
2022 is the hard wall on the Outlander itself. The fourth-generation car is built on the Renault–Nissan CMF-CD platform and shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Rogue and X-Trail (T33); its 2.5L PR25DD four is a Nissan engine and its transmission is a Jatco CVT8. Everything ahead of it — the 2.4L 4B12 four, the 3.0L 6B31 V6, the earlier CVT — belongs to the older GS-platform car.
The V6 is the other thing year alone hides. EPA data lists a 3.0L V6 on a 6-speed automatic alongside the 2.4L CVT through 2020, restricted to 4WD from 2014, and no V6 at all from 2022. The plug-in hybrid is listed separately again, with a single-speed unit instead of a CVT, so PHEV drivetrain parts do not cross to the gasoline car of the same year.
Known issues that drive used-part demand
- The CVT has a recall history worth knowing before you buy a used one. Mitsubishi recalled certain 2016 Outlander, 2015–2016 Outlander Sport and 2016 Lancer vehicles fitted with a CVT because in some conditions the vehicle could hesitate on acceleration (NHTSA 16V563000). It also shows how Mitsubishi mixes models inside one campaign.
- Rear brakes are the corrosion item. Mitsubishi recalled 2014–2016 Outlander and 2013–2016 Outlander Sport vehicles because water can get into the rear brake calipers and corrode the parking-brake actuator shafts so they bind, leaving the parking brake unable to engage or release fully (NHTSA 18V070000). Braking and parking-brake work is safety-critical: have it diagnosed and fitted by a professional.
- Liftgate struts are a used-part trap. Mitsubishi recalled 2014–2020 Outlander and 2018–2022 Outlander PHEV vehicles because the liftgate gas spring cylinders can corrode and lose pressure, rupturing the cylinder or letting the liftgate fall (NHTSA 26V252000). A used strut off a same-era donor is the wrong economy here.
Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.
Most-requested used Outlander parts
Start by naming the vehicle: Outlander or Outlander Sport. They are different cars and we quote them separately. Then send the full 17-digit VIN with the engine (2.4L four, 3.0L V6, 2.5L four on 2022-and-later, or PHEV) and 2WD or 4WD. Requests concentrate on engines and CVTs, brake and suspension hardware, liftgate and body parts, alternators, starters and collision panels. We do not publish stock or prices; you will have written terms and warranty before you commit.

Used Mitsubishi Outlander Parts — FAQ
Is the Outlander Sport the same vehicle as the Outlander?
No. The Outlander Sport is Mitsubishi's smaller crossover, sold as the RVR in Canada and Japan and the ASX elsewhere. It shares the GS platform with the third-generation Outlander and borrows components, but it is a shorter five-seat vehicle with its own body and its own parts, and NHTSA lists the two separately.
Will parts from a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander fit a 2022?
Structural and drivetrain parts, no. The 2022 Outlander is the fourth generation, built on the Renault–Nissan CMF-CD platform with the Nissan Rogue and X-Trail, using a Nissan 2.5L PR25DD engine and a Jatco CVT8. Everything before it is the older GS-platform car. Treat 2021 to 2022 as a full break.
Which Mitsubishi Outlander years have the V6?
EPA data lists a 3.0L V6 with a 6-speed automatic through the 2020 model year, and from 2014 only on 4WD models. From 2022 the Outlander is listed only with the 2.5L four and a CVT, so a used V6 has to come from a 2020-or-earlier car.
Will the 2.4 engine from a 2012 Outlander fit a 2014?
Treat them as different engines. Mitsubishi's 2014 Outlander material lists the 2.4 as a SOHC 16-valve unit, engine code 4J12, while NHTSA's 2018 belt-tensioner campaign names 2008-2012 Outlander and 2009-2012 Lancer vehicles as 4B11 or 4B12 cars. The third-generation Outlander changed engine family, so order by the code on the engine, not by 2.4 liters, and send the VIN with your quote request.
Will a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander front fender fit a 2016?
No. Mitsubishi called the 2016 Outlander much more than a mid-cycle refresh, listing a redesigned front fascia with new front fenders, headlights, LED position lights, lower door sections, rear fascia and LED taillights on all models, plus thicker rear door glass, redesigned suspension and a new-generation CVT. Body, lighting and glass split at 2016 inside one generation.
Do 2WD and S-AWC Mitsubishi Outlander parts interchange?
Less than owners expect. EPA certifies 2WD and 4WD Outlanders as separate models, and Mitsubishi lists an active front differential on S-AWC cars only for 2014. On the 2022 car, S-AWC adds Active Yaw Control, and Mitsubishi says S-AWC models also include headlight washers and a front wiper de-icer, so even bumper and wiper parts can differ between two cars of the same year.
Does an Outlander GT take a different headlight from an SE?
Yes, and the model year alone will not tell you. Mitsubishi lists super wide-beam HID headlights among the 2014 Outlander GT's standard features, and for 2016 it lists LED headlights as a GT exterior feature while describing the rest of the range with halogen headlights and LED position lights. A headlamp has to be matched to the trim and the VIN, not to the year.
