About This Fuel Injectors
Before you price used fuel injectors, settle which kind your engine uses, because port and direct injectors are entirely different parts. A port injector sprays into the intake manifold so the fuel mixes with the incoming air; a direct-injection (GDI) injector sits in the combustion chamber and is fed by a high-pressure pump - Bosch rates its GDI high-pressure pumps to as much as 200 bar. The second thing to settle is coding: many injectors carry a calibration code recording that unit's flow and response, and it has to be programmed into the ECU against the cylinder the injector goes in. The remanufacturer Carwood notes a reconditioned injector needs a new code, because reconditioning changes its characteristics, and that some vehicles will not start with the wrong code. Injector work involves a pressurised fuel system and, on GDI, high-voltage circuits - leave it to a shop.

Before you order, it helps to read:
Common Signs Your Fuel Injectors May Need Replacing
- A misfire or dead cylinder that follows the injector when it is swapped
- Rough idle, hesitation and a long crank before the engine catches
- Lean or rich fuel-trim codes on one bank
- A fuel smell, wet plug, or black smoke from an injector that is not shutting fully
- Engine oil rising on the dipstick and smelling of fuel
- Fuel economy that has dropped away with no other explanation
Symptoms vary by vehicle and driving conditions. Always confirm diagnosis before replacement.
What to Check When Buying a Used Fuel Injectors
- Confirm port or direct injection first - they are different parts and are not interchangeable
- Ask whether your engine requires injector calibration codes, and get the code that belongs to each unit supplied with it
- If the injectors were reconditioned, insist new codes were issued - old codes no longer describe a rebuilt injector
- Ask what "flow matched" means for that set - injectors grouped by similar static flow after cleaning are not a truly balanced set
- Buy a full set so fuel delivery stays consistent across cylinders
- Confirm the connector style, and that new O-rings or, on GDI, combustion seals and filters are included
- On a GDI engine, rule out intake-valve carbon before condemning injectors - direct injection does not wash the valves the way port injection does
Ask for these details and any available photos before approving a purchase.

How Pricing Is Determined
Pricing for used fuel injectors depends on several factors:
- Vehicle year, make, model, and engine configuration
- Mileage and overall condition of the donor vehicle
- Supplier location and shipping distance
- Warranty coverage offered
The biggest factor in an injector quote is port versus direct injection - a GDI unit is a different class of part from a port injector. After that: whether the set has been cleaned and flow tested with a report you can see, whether calibration codes are supplied (and reissued if the units were reconditioned), and whether new seals and filters are included. Diagnosis, coding and installation are separate. We do not display prices - request a quote and review the written terms before you buy.
Confirm the final price and fitment basis before approving a purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are direct-injection and port injectors interchangeable?
No, and it is the first thing to get right. A port injector sprays into the intake manifold ahead of the valve; a direct injector sprays straight into the combustion chamber and is fed from a high-pressure pump - Bosch rates its GDI high-pressure pumps up to 20 MPa, that is 200 bar. They mount, seal and are driven differently, so an engine built for one cannot run the other. Tell us your engine, not just year and model.
Do used injectors need coding to my car?
On many engines, yes. An injector calibration code - Bosch calls it IMA, IQA or ISA, Delphi C2i/C3i/C4i, Siemens IIC, Denso a QR code - records that injector's flow rate, response time and behaviour at different pressures, and is programmed into the ECU against the cylinder it is fitted to. BMW N-series GDI piezo injectors each carry a six-digit code that goes into the DME. Skip it and the ECU is fuelling from the old injector's data; some vehicles will not start at all.
Can I replace just the one injector that is misfiring?
You can, but a set gives the more predictable result, because the point of injector work is even delivery across every cylinder. Diagnose first: on a direct-injection engine a misfire may be intake-valve carbon rather than an injector, since direct injection removes the valve-washing effect port-injected fuel provides. Leave the fitting to a qualified shop - the system holds pressure and GDI circuits run at high voltage.
Is my single-cylinder misfire the injector, or the coil and plug?
Codes narrow it down. A technical misfire guide notes that a single-cylinder misfire code with an injector code for that same cylinder, P0304 alongside P0204 for example, points at the injector, and that a misfire code with no companion codes sends you to that cylinder's ignition parts. On a GDI engine, Hyundai's 2.5L bulletin has the technician watch rail pressure after shutdown; no drop rules a leaking injector out.
How urgent is a dead injector if the check engine light is flashing?
Treat a flashing light as a stop-driving warning, not a to-do item. The California Air Resources Board's OBD II fact sheet states that a blinking warning light means a malfunction is occurring that could be damaging your catalytic converter, and that many manufacturers recommend having the vehicle serviced as soon as possible. Parking it protects the converter while the injector question is settled.
Does anything else have to be new when direct-injection injectors come out?
Yes, some parts are single use. Hyundai's bulletin 23-FL-002H, for internally leaking 2.5L GDI injectors on certain 2021-2023 Sonata and Tucson, 2021-2022 Santa Fe and 2022 Santa Cruz, requires the high pressure fuel pipe to be replaced with a new part once the fuel rail is reinstalled, and lists a new bolt for each injector replaced. Ask your installer what the job needs besides the injectors.
