About This Rear View Mirror
The interior rear-view mirror stopped being a piece of glass a long time ago, which is why used ones get bought wrong. This one part can carry an electrochromic auto-dimming cell - a gel between two panes that darkens in proportion to glare, driven by separate forward and rearward light sensors - plus a compass, a HomeLink garage-door transmitter, or a video display fed by a rear camera. The bracket it hangs from often carries more: the rain and light sensor for the automatic wipers frequently sits at the glass behind the mirror, and the forward-facing ADAS camera for lane-departure warning and collision braking is mounted at the top center of the windshield beside it. Disturb that camera or its bracket and the factory procedure is a target-based recalibration on a level floor with a scan tool - a camera off by a fraction of a degree can weaken lane keeping without setting a warning lamp.

Before you order, it helps to read:
Common Signs Your Rear View Mirror May Need Replacing
- The mirror no longer darkens at night, or stays dark in daylight
- Cracked, delaminated or discolored mirror glass
- The mirror has fallen off the windshield button or will not hold position
- A blank, frozen or flickering screen on a camera display mirror
- The compass reads the wrong heading or shows nothing
- HomeLink buttons that will not learn a new device
Symptoms vary by vehicle and driving conditions. Always confirm diagnosis before replacement.
What to Check When Buying a Used Rear View Mirror
- List every function yours has - auto-dim, compass, HomeLink, mic, display - and match it exactly
- Confirm the mount style - wedge, trilobe or cam-lock button - and whether the windshield button is included
- Photograph your connector and count the pins - swaps often need a specific harness
- Check whether an ADAS camera or rain/light sensor sits at your bracket, and budget a recalibration
- Clear the HomeLink buttons and retrain them - a used mirror can hold the donor's codes
- Set the compass variance zone for your region and run the calibration after fitting
Ask for these details and any available photos before approving a purchase.

How Pricing Is Determined
Pricing for used rear view mirror depends on several factors:
- Vehicle year, make, model, and engine configuration
- Mileage and overall condition of the donor vehicle
- Supplier location and shipping distance
- Warranty coverage offered
Feature content drives a mirror quote far more than the model year. A plain manual mirror, an auto-dimming mirror, one with compass and HomeLink, and a full display mirror with a video screen are four different products. Mount style, whether the windshield button and harness are included, and glass condition also count. An ADAS recalibration, if yours needs one, is labor at your installer, not part cost - but budget it. We do not display prices - request a quote and review the written terms first.
Confirm the final price and fitment basis before approving a purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a used auto-dimming mirror just plug into my car?
Sometimes. These are electrochromic units with their own light sensors, so the car has to supply the right signals and the connector must match. Cross-model swaps commonly need a vehicle-specific harness, and on some cars the option must also be enabled in the vehicle configuration.
Does replacing the rear-view mirror need ADAS calibration?
It can. On many vehicles the forward-facing camera for lane-departure warning and collision braking sits at the top center of the windshield beside or behind the mirror; some use a stereo camera pod in one bracket. If it is disturbed, the factory procedure is a target-based recalibration with a scan tool.
Will the used mirror still open the last owner's garage door?
It can, until you clear it. HomeLink stores the devices it was trained to, and the published procedure includes a clearing step before you train your own - the step owners are told to do before selling a car.
Are rear-view mirror mounts universal?
No. Wedge, trilobe and cam-lock button mounts are all in use, and adapter brackets exist precisely because factory mounts do not cross over. Match the mount as well as the features.
Can I upgrade to a camera display rear-view mirror using a used one?
Not by swapping the mirror alone. Gentex, which builds them, describes the Full Display Mirror as a system that streams video from a rearward-facing camera to a mirror-integrated display, running either as a standard auto-dimming mirror or as a rear video display. Without that camera and its wiring on your car, the display has nothing to show. Say which you have when you request a quote.
Will my automatic high beams still work if I fit a plain used mirror?
Not if the camera that runs them lives in the mirror. Gentex states that its SmartBeam automatic high-beam system is integrated into an automatic-dimming rear-view mirror, with the CMOS camera and related electronics incorporated into the mirror mount, floating off the glass. Fit a mirror without that camera and the car loses automatic high beams.
Can I clip a wide-angle mirror over the broken one instead of buying a used mirror?
Vehicle makers advise against it. Genesis tells owners not to modify the rear-view mirror and not to install a wide mirror, warning of serious injury during a collision or airbag deployment. The federal mirror standard also calls for an inside mirror of unit magnification, which a convex clip-on is not. Replace the mirror rather than cover the one the car was built with.
My auto-dimming mirror goes bright the moment I shift into reverse - is it failing?
That one is normal. Genesis describes it plainly: whenever the gear is shifted to R, the mirror automatically goes to the brightest setting in order to improve the driver's view behind the vehicle. Judge a mirror at night in drive instead, with nothing covering its light sensors. If it still will not darken there, the element or its signal is the suspect.
