About Used Dodge Durango Parts

The Dodge Durango is a three-row SUV, and from 2011 the current WD generation is built on the same architecture as the Jeep Grand Cherokee — so its used-parts pool overlaps with that SUV, not with Dodge's cars. Fitment turns on generation, engine and RWD-vs-AWD, so pin those down by VIN before ordering, because the older pre-2011 Durango is a different platform entirely.

Generations & fitment boundaries

The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.

  • 1998–2003 (DN (1st gen, body-on-frame)) — Truck-based body-on-frame SUV sharing Dakota underpinnings; a separate older platform whose parts do not cross to the 2011+ unibody Durango.
  • 2004–2009 (HB (2nd gen, body-on-frame)) — Larger body-on-frame Durango (HEMI era); still a truck platform, still separate from the modern car.
  • 2011–present (WD (3rd gen, Grand Cherokee WK2 architecture)) — The volume used-parts donor. The WD Durango shares its unibody architecture with the 2011+ Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2), so many chassis, driveline and powertrain parts overlap with that Jeep — confirm by VIN, not by badge.
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart

Order by engine code, not by trim. The WD Durango runs the 3.6L Pentastar V6, the 5.7L HEMI V8 (R/T), and — on the SRT — the 6.4L HEMI V8; read the 8th VIN digit (the FCA engine code) to confirm which you have before buying an engine or matching a transmission. These are different engines with different mounts, cooling, fuel and transmission hardware, so a 6.4 SRT part is not a 5.7 part and neither is a V6 part.

The Durango is rear-drive with all-wheel drive optional, and AWD differs from RWD in the transfer case, front axle/driveshaft and related driveline hardware — a RWD part won't drop into an AWD truck. Because the WD shares the Grand Cherokee's architecture, some of that driveline overlaps with the Jeep; match the exact system and axle ratio, not just 'AWD.'

Later WD Durangos use the ZF-designed 8-speed automatic (exclusively since 2014), while earlier cars used an earlier automatic — a used transmission has to match both the engine and the exact gearbox your truck left the factory with. Send the full VIN so engine, transmission and drivetrain all line up.

Known issues that drive used-part demand
  • 2011–2013 3.6L Pentastar left (driver-side) cylinder head can wear its valve guides and seats, giving a tick and misfire codes (P0302/P0304/P0306). Chrysler moved to hardened heads in summer 2012 and covered the original left head under campaign X56 — 10 years / 150,000 miles. On a used V6 Durango favor a post-2013 3.6 or an updated head, and have a mechanic confirm the misfiring bank before you replace an engine.
  • 5.7 HEMI with MDS (Multi-Displacement System — cylinder deactivation) can wear lifters and the cam on the deactivating cylinders, heard as a top-end HEMI tick with misfires. Review oil history and route any tick to a mechanic before buying a used 5.7 long block.
  • AWD system, transfer case and axle ratio must match your build — a RWD unit won't stand in for AWD, and a mismatched front-to-rear ratio causes driveline bind.

Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Most-requested used Durango parts

The Durango parts we're asked to quote most are the 3.6 Pentastar and 5.7 HEMI engines, the 8-speed automatic (matched to the engine), and the transfer case and front/rear axles matched to RWD-vs-AWD and ratio. Because the WD shares the Grand Cherokee's architecture, have your VIN ready so we confirm generation, engine code and drivetrain before quoting.

Used Dodge Durango Parts — FAQ

Do Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee parts interchange?

For the 2011+ WD Durango, many do — it's built on the same architecture as the 2011+ Grand Cherokee (WK2), so a lot of chassis, driveline and powertrain parts overlap. The overlap isn't total, though, and body panels are model-specific, so always confirm by VIN before ordering.

How do I tell which engine my Durango has?

Read the 8th digit of the VIN — that's the FCA engine code — rather than trusting the badge. The WD Durango came with the 3.6 Pentastar V6, the 5.7 HEMI V8, or the 6.4 HEMI on SRT models, and those don't share engine or transmission hardware.

Is a used pre-2011 Durango engine the same as a newer one?

No — the pre-2011 Durango is an older body-on-frame platform, separate from the 2011+ unibody truck, so don't cross parts between them. Match your generation first, then the engine code and drivetrain.

Which transfer case is in my AWD Durango, and does the Tow Package change it?

It depends on the engine and the package. Dodge's 2012 and 2013 sheets list a single-speed MP3010 with the 3.6 V6 and a two-speed MP3022 with the 5.7 HEMI. The 2021 and 2024 sheets list an MP2010 for the V6, an MP3015 for the 5.7, the two-speed MP3025 with the Tow Package, and the MP3010 on the 392 and Hellcat or a 5.7 packaged with Tow N Go. Note your engine and package on the quote request.

What transmission is in a 2012 Durango, and will a newer eight-speed bolt in?

A 2012 Durango has no eight-speed. Dodge's 2012 specifications list the W5A580 five-speed with the 3.6 Pentastar and the 65RFE six-speed with the 5.7 HEMI, so the V6 and V8 never shared a gearbox. The later eight-speeds are separate units too: the 845RE, later 850RE, behind the Pentastar and the 8HP70 behind the HEMI. Match the engine and the transmission tag rather than the model year.

My 2012 Durango stalls and won't restart — should I buy a used TIPM?

Check the recall history before ordering any module. NHTSA campaign 14V-530 covers 2011 Durangos with the 3.6 or 5.7 and 15V-115 covers 2012-2013 models: a fuel pump relay inside the TIPM-7 can fail and stall the vehicle without warning. The dealer remedy under those campaigns replaces that relay with one mounted outside the TIPM, so have the VIN checked first — a salvage TIPM can carry the same relay.

Will a 2013 Durango grille, headlight or tail lamp fit a 2014 Durango?

No — 2014 was a heavy restyle inside the same generation. Dodge's own 2014 Durango material describes a new split-crosshair grille, new projector-beam headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, a taller lower fascia, and a racetrack tail lamp using 192 LEDs, plus a redesigned center stack with 5-inch and 8.4-inch Uconnect screens and a new three-spoke steering wheel. Treat 2011-2013 and 2014-on as separate pools for lighting and trim.
