About Used Dodge Journey Parts

The Journey wore the same badge and much the same body from 2009 to 2020, which is exactly why people order the wrong parts for it. Three things fork underneath: the V6 changes from a 3.5L to the 3.6L Pentastar for 2011, the 2.4L four is tied to a 4-speed automatic for the whole run while the V6 gets a 6-speed, and all-wheel drive was only ever sold with the V6. Match the engine and the driveline, not the model name.

Generations & fitment boundaries

The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.

  • 2009–2010 (JC body, Chrysler global D-segment platform) — Dodge launched the Journey on its global D-segment platform, an architecture it says is also used on the Dodge Avenger, with the Journey's 113.8-inch wheelbase stretched 4.9 inches to fit a third row. Two combinations only: a 2.4L World Engine with a 4-speed automatic, or a 3.5L V6 with a 6-speed. AWD came on V6 SXT and R/T models.
  • 2011–2019 (JC body, Pentastar era) — The 3.6L Pentastar V6 replaced the 3.5L for 2011 — Dodge called it a 20 percent power increase over the V6 it replaced, at 283 hp and 260 lb-ft, on a 6-speed automatic. The 2.4L four and its 4-speed carried on beside it, and AWD stayed a V6-only option to the end of the run.
  • 2020 (JC body, final model year) — One configuration. EPA lists the 2020 Journey as a 2.4L four with a 4-speed automatic and nothing else — no V6, no all-wheel drive. Production ended in December 2020 at Toluca and there is no 2021 model year, so a "2021 Journey" request is almost always a 2020 car.
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart

Start with the 8th VIN digit, not the year. Through 2010 the V6 was a 3.5L on a 6-speed automatic; from 2011 it is the 3.6L Pentastar, a different engine family on the same 6-speed. The 2.4L four is the constant — EPA lists it with a 4-speed automatic in every year from 2009 to 2020. So "Journey transmission" is really two parts, a 4-speed behind the four or a 6-speed behind the six.

All-wheel drive is a V6 decision. Dodge offered AWD on V6 SXT and R/T models at launch and still called the Pentastar standard on AWD models in 2019, and EPA lists no 2.4L AWD Journey in any year — so there is no four-cylinder donor for AWD driveline parts, and a 2020 car cannot supply them at all. The system is on-demand, driving the front wheels until the rear are needed and also engaging on dry pavement between 25 and 65 mph.

On donors, ask rather than assume. NHTSA campaign 16V907000 covers the 2016 Journey with the Jeep Compass and Patriot for the same crank or cam sensor, and 18V523000 covers the 2018 Journey with the Grand Caravan, Compass and Cherokee for the same rear caliper pistons — evidence of shared sourcing, not of guaranteed fitment. The Fiat Freemont, built at the same Toluca plant from March 2011, was the Fiat version of the Journey. Tell us if a non-Journey donor is acceptable and we will confirm by part number.

Known issues that drive used-part demand
  • Power steering: NHTSA campaign 16V273000 covers 2009–2016 Journeys built through November 2016, where the power steering return hose can rupture at start-up after cold exposure and cost you steering assist. If you are sourcing steering hose, pump or rack parts for those years, check the campaign against your VIN and have steering work done by a professional.
  • Airbags and ABS on 2011–2015 cars: campaign 17V432000 covers 2011–2015 Journeys where the driver airbag wiring harness can chafe inside the steering wheel and short, potentially deploying the bag unexpectedly, and 15V675000 covers 2012–2015 cars where water entering the ABS module harness can disable ABS and stability control. Verify campaign status for your car and any donor part by VIN, and let a qualified shop do the work.
  • Two cheap parts worth checking. Campaign 15V431000 covers 2011–2015 Journeys with the 2.4L whose engine cover can detach onto the exhaust manifold, a fire risk — inspect the mounting on any used cover. Campaign 22V723000 covers 2017–2018 Journeys whose amber side reflex reflector, built into the headlamp assembly, is not bright enough to meet FMVSS 108, so a used headlamp off an unrepaired 2017–2018 donor carries that noncompliance forward.

Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Most-requested used Journey parts

Send the full VIN, the model year, whether it is the 2.4L four or the V6, and front- or all-wheel drive. For a transmission, say which engine it sits behind — the four uses a 4-speed and the V6 a 6-speed, and they are not alternatives. Common requests are engines, transmissions, AWD driveline parts, power steering components, headlamps, liftgates and third-row seats. We quote against your VIN.

Used Dodge Journey Parts — FAQ

Will a 2010 Dodge Journey V6 engine fit a 2011?

No. The 2011 model year replaced the 3.5L V6 with the 3.6L Pentastar, which Dodge introduced at 283 horsepower and about 20 percent more power than the V6 it replaced. Treat 2009–2010 V6 cars and 2011-and-later V6 cars as separate parts pools and confirm by the 8th VIN digit.

Can I add all-wheel drive parts to a four-cylinder Journey?

Not from a Journey donor. AWD was sold with the V6 — Dodge listed it on V6 SXT and R/T models at launch and still called the Pentastar standard on AWD models in 2019 — and EPA lists no four-cylinder AWD Journey in any model year. There is no factory 2.4L AWD car to pull matching driveline parts from.

Is the 2020 Journey the same as earlier years for parts?

Only partly. EPA lists the 2020 Journey in one configuration, a 2.4L four with a 4-speed automatic, no V6 and no all-wheel drive, so it can neither use nor supply V6 or AWD parts. Production ended in December 2020 and there is no 2021 model year.

Do 2009 or 2010 Journey body and interior parts fit a 2011 or newer?

Mostly no. Dodge overhauled the Journey for 2011 with a one-piece instrument panel, a larger cluster carrying an electronic vehicle information center, restyled center-stack bezels and new seats, plus a new front fascia with the split-crosshair honeycomb grille, larger fog lamp bezels and a rear fascia with LED tail lamps. Suspension and steering were redesigned the same year.

Does a Journey's SE, SXT or Crossroad badge tell me which engine it has?

No. Dodge listed the 2.4-liter four with a four-speed automatic as standard on the 2019 SE and Crossroad, with the 3.6 V6 and its six-speed available on both and standard on the GT and on every all-wheel-drive Journey. Trim moves the wheels too: 19-inch aluminum wheels were standard on Crossroad and GT. The badge narrows the build; the VIN decides it.

Is my Dodge Journey V6 a flex-fuel car, and does it matter for parts?

It can be, and it is a separate certified build. EPA lists the front-wheel-drive 3.6 Journey for both 2013 and 2016 as running gasoline or E85, and lists the all-wheel-drive 3.6 of the same years on gasoline only. So 'Journey V6' covers more than one configuration, and an engine or fuel-system part should be matched to the VIN rather than to displacement.

What should I check before buying a used front door for a 2009 Journey?

Its wiring. NHTSA campaign 10V658000 covers the 2009 Dodge Journey for wires inside the front door harnesses that can fatigue and break. A used door arrives with the donor's own harness, so a door pulled from a car that never had the remedy brings that fault with it. Check the donor VIN's campaign status and have the door electrics tested before it goes on.
