About Used Nissan Sentra Parts

The Sentra is a high-volume compact commuter, so used Sentra parts are among the cheapest Nissan repairs to source — but what fits depends on the generation, and above all on the transmission. Tell us your VIN and we'll match the exact engine and transmission variant before you buy.

Generations & fitment boundaries

The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.

  • 2000–2006 (B15) — the last Sentra with no CVT — these use a conventional automatic or a manual, so their transmission won't interchange with any later CVT car.
  • 2007–2012 (B16) — the first Sentra offered with Nissan's Xtronic CVT, but also sold with a 6-speed manual — year alone doesn't tell you which, so confirm CVT vs. manual by VIN.
  • 2013–2019 (B17) — the 1.8L (MRA8DE) generation where the CVT is the standard automatic; this is the range with the most-documented CVT complaints.
  • 2020–present (B18) — a new 2.0L direct-injection (MR20DD) with a CVT; parts don't interchange with the 2013–2019 1.8L car despite both being a "Sentra."
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart

The VIN separates the variants. Engines by generation: 1.8L QG18DE (2000–2006, plus a 2.5L QR25DE in the SE-R/Spec V from 2002), 2.0L MR20DE (2007–2012), 1.8L MRA8DE (2013–2019), and 2.0L direct-injection MR20DD (2020 on).

Transmissions trip buyers up: B15 cars use a 4-speed automatic or manual and no CVT; B16 cars can be a 6-speed manual or the first Xtronic CVT; 2013-and-newer cars use the CVT as standard. Match the exact unit to your engine and generation, not just the model year.

Known issues that drive used-part demand
  • The Sentra's best-known weak point is the CVT. Complaints cluster on the 2013–2017 cars — commonly shuddering or juddering under acceleration, overheating on longer drives, and loss of power.
  • Nissan never issued a safety recall for the CVT judder, but a class-action settlement (Martinez v. Nissan) extended the CVT/transmission warranty on 2013–2017 Sentras from 5 years / 60,000 miles to 7 years / 84,000 miles — worth checking against your VIN and in-service date before you pay for a replacement. If you do replace it, buy a tested unit matched to your VIN with the correct control unit, and have it installed by a qualified shop.

Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Used Nissan Sentra Parts — FAQ

Which Nissan Sentra years have CVT transmission problems?

Complaints cluster on the 2013–2017 CVT cars — typically shuddering under acceleration, overheating on longer drives, and power loss. If you need a replacement, buy a tested unit matched to your VIN and check whether the extended 7-year / 84,000-mile CVT warranty from the class-action settlement still applies to your car.

How do I tell which engine my Sentra has?

Use the VIN. Broadly: 2000–2006 cars use the 1.8L QG18DE (or the 2.5L QR25DE on SE-R/Spec V), 2007–2012 use the 2.0L MR20DE, 2013–2019 use the 1.8L MRA8DE, and 2020-and-newer use the 2.0L direct-injection MR20DD. We confirm the exact variant from your VIN before quoting.

Is a used Sentra CVT worth buying?

Yes, if it's sourced the right way — a tested unit from the same generation and engine, matched to your VIN, with the correct transmission control unit transferred or verified so it's calibrated to your car. Have it installed and serviced by a qualified shop.

Which Sentras have the 1.6 turbo, and do its parts cross with the 1.8?

The turbo cars are the SR Turbo and NISMO, introduced for 2017. EPA lists the 2017 Sentra's 1.6L turbo on premium fuel with a six-speed manual or a CVT, beside the regular-fuel 1.8L, and shows the NISMO as 1.6 turbo only. The SR Turbo also runs larger front brake discs, 11.7 inch against 11 inch, plus its own springs and dampers. Engine, cooling, brake and suspension parts do not cross.

Will a 2016 Sentra hood or headlight fit my 2015 Sentra?

No. Nissan restyled the Sentra for 2016 with a reshaped hood, new front and rear fenders and fascias, and new boomerang headlights and taillights, so front-end sheet metal and lighting split at the 2015/2016 line even though both years are the same B17 generation. Send the VIN with your quote request and we match body parts to the exact model year.

Can I buy a used airbag for a 2002-2006 Sentra?

No. Those Sentras sit under an open Takata inflator recall carrying a do-not-drive warning from Nissan, because the inflator can rupture during deployment and throw metal fragments. A used passenger airbag pulled from another 2002-2006 Sentra can carry the same recalled inflator. Nissan replaces the inflator free and will tow the car in — use that route.

I have a Sentra SE-R Spec V — are its engine and gearbox shared with a base Sentra?

No. The Spec V is the 2.5L car: for 2008 it is listed with a 2.5L and a six-speed manual, while the SE-R takes the 2.5L with a CVT, alongside the 2.0L Sentras. EPA also lists a 2.5L six-speed manual beside the 1.8L for 2004. So a 2.5L Sentra needs its own engine, transaxle, clutch and cooling parts — nothing from a same-year 1.8 or 2.0 substitutes.
