About Used Ram 1500 Parts

The Ram 1500 is one of the deepest used-truck parts pools in the country, but the single most important thing to nail before you buy is which truck you actually have — because from 2019 Ram sold two different 1500s side by side. Match the part to your generation (DS or DT), your engine code, and 2WD vs 4WD, not just to the '1500' badge on the tailgate.

Generations & fitment boundaries

The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.

  • 2009–2018 (Fourth gen — DS) — the 'DS' body, which Ram also kept building as the '1500 Classic' from 2019 onward. Coil-spring or air-ride rear; sheet metal, glass, interior and bumpers do not interchange with the newer DT.
  • 2019–present (Fifth gen — DT) — all-new body, frame and interior. A 2019+ '1500' can be a DT or a DS-Classic, so a model year alone will not tell you the body — confirm before ordering any panel, glass, lamp or interior part.
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart

Engine code decides fitment, not displacement. The 1500 was offered with the 3.6L Pentastar V6, the 5.7L HEMI V8, and the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. On DT trucks the 3.6 and 5.7 were also offered with the eTorque mild-hybrid belt-generator system, which changes the accessory drive, wiring and the battery/module — an eTorque engine is not a drop-in for a non-eTorque truck.

Most gas 1500s use the ZF-based 8-speed automatic that FCA builds as the TorqueFlite 8. A used transmission has to match the engine, the exact 8-speed variant, and 2WD vs 4WD, because the transfer case, tailhousing, driveshafts and crossmembers differ by drivetrain. Send your VIN so the engine, transmission and 4x4 hardware all match on the quote.

Known issues that drive used-part demand
  • The 5.7 HEMI uses MDS (Multi-Displacement System) cylinder deactivation, which shuts down cylinders under light load; the deactivation hardware is worth having a mechanic inspect on a used engine. Listen for a top-end 'HEMI tick' and review oil history before buying a used 5.7 long block, and have any tick or misfire diagnosed.
  • 2011–2013 3.6L Pentastar left (driver-side) cylinder heads can wear their valve guides/seats, giving a tick and misfire codes (P0302/P0304/P0306). Chrysler moved to hardened heads in summer 2012 and covered the original left head under campaign X56 — 10 years / 150,000 miles. Favor a post-2013 3.6 or an updated head, and confirm the misfiring bank first.
  • The 3.0L EcoDiesel is emissions-controlled (DEF/SCR after-treatment, EGR, a diesel particulate filter). A used diesel or its emissions parts must meet EPA and your state's rules — used emissions components are not legal everywhere (CARB and state programs differ). Route diesel-emissions work to a shop that can verify compliance for your state.

Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Most-requested used 1500 parts

The costliest Ram 1500 sourcing mistake is ordering a body or interior part off the model year for a 2019–2023 truck without checking DS-Classic vs DT. Doors, mirrors, tailgates, headlamps, dash and console parts do not cross between the two, even though both were sold as a '2020 Ram 1500.' Read the DS/DT distinction off the VIN and body, confirm the engine code and 2WD/4WD, and we'll match it on the quote before you commit.

Why Buy Used Ram 1500 Parts?

A used part can be a lower-cost alternative to new OEM for a Ram 1500. Compare condition, fitment, warranty and return terms, shipping, and final price before deciding whether an option is right for your repair.

  • Vehicle details — include your VIN or full Ram 1500 configuration for fitment review.
  • Terms before purchase — review the written warranty and return terms.
  • Shipping options — confirm the applicable method, timing, and cost for your destination.

Used Ram 1500 Parts — FAQ

My truck is a 2019 (or 2020, 2021) Ram 1500 — how do I know if it's a Classic or the new body?

Ram sold both at once: the previous-generation truck as the '1500 Classic' (DS body) alongside the all-new fifth-gen (DT) from 2019. The two do not share sheet metal, glass or interior, so confirm which body you have by VIN before ordering any panel or trim part.

Will a used 5.7 HEMI from any year fit my Ram 1500?

Match the engine code and the transmission it mates to. The 5.7 uses MDS cylinder deactivation whose hardware is worth a mechanic's inspection, so listen for a top-end tick and review oil history on any used long block, then confirm the code against the 8th VIN digit before ordering.

Does a 2WD transmission work in my 4WD Ram 1500?

No. 2WD and 4WD 1500s differ in the transfer case, tailhousing, driveshafts and crossmembers, and the gas 8-speed (TorqueFlite 8) also has to match your engine and its exact variant. Send your VIN so the transmission and 4x4 hardware match your truck.

How do I tell if my 2019 or newer Ram 1500 has eTorque?

Look for a motor generator where the alternator should be. Ram replaced the alternator with a belt-driven motor generator unit: air-cooled and in the alternator's spot on the 5.7 HEMI, liquid-cooled and mounted on the front of the 3.6. eTorque also adds a 48-volt battery pack on the rear cabin wall and a DC-to-DC converter, so its accessory-drive and charging parts are their own.

Is the 3.0 EcoDiesel in a 2019 Ram 1500 the same as a 2020 one?

No, and it is not even the same truck. EPA lists the 3.0-liter diesel for 2019 only under the Ram 1500 Classic, the older DS body, while for 2020 it lists the diesel under the new 1500. Stellantis calls the 2020 unit a third-generation EcoDiesel with redesigned pistons, a new water-cooled variable-geometry turbo and a 16.0:1 compression ratio, down from 16.5:1.

Will Ram 1500 TRX fenders or bed sides fit a standard Ram 1500?

No. Ram says the TRX stretches 8 inches wider than a standard Ram 1500, using composite front fenders and all-new steel box outers shaped around a 6-inch-wider track and 35-inch tires, on 18-by-9-inch wheels behind a supercharged 6.2 HEMI. Its frame and suspension were built past standard 1500 requirements, so treat TRX body and chassis parts as a separate pool.

Do RamBox bed sides fit a Ram 1500 with a standard bed?

No. RamBox is not an accessory bolted into the box: Ram describes two weatherproof, lockable, drainable, illuminated bins built into the sides of the bed, running its length above the wheel wells. A standard bed has no bin openings, latches or lighting for them, so the bedsides are their own part. Say whether yours is a RamBox truck with your quote request.
