About Used Ram 2500 Parts
The Ram 2500 is a heavy-duty three-quarter-ton truck, so before you buy anything the two questions that decide fitment are which engine you have — the Cummins turbodiesel or the gas HEMI — and 2WD vs 4WD. Match the part to the generation, the exact engine, and the drivetrain by VIN, not to the '2500' on the tailgate, because HD parts do not cross with the light-duty Ram 1500.
Generations & fitment boundaries
The generation and platform decide whether a used part interchanges. Match yours before you request a quote.
- 2003–2009 (Third gen (DR/DH)) — The 5.9L Cummins era through 2007, then the 6.7L Cummins arriving mid-2007 (the 2007.5 model year). Body, interior and lighting are their own generation and do not cross into the later trucks.
- 2010–2018 (Fourth gen) — The long-running HD body most 2500 requests are for; 6.7L Cummins diesel or 5.7/6.4 HEMI gas depending on year. Confirm engine and drivetrain before ordering any powertrain or body part.
- 2019–present (Fifth gen (DT HD)) — All-new body, frame and interior; 6.7L Cummins or 6.4L HEMI gas. Sheet metal, glass and interior do not interchange with the 2010–2018 truck.
Engines & transmissions — how to tell them apart
Order by engine, because the 2500 is a diesel-or-gas truck and the two share almost no powertrain hardware. Through 2007 the diesel was the 5.9L Cummins inline-six; from mid-2007 (the 2007.5 model year) it became the 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel that continues today. The gas option in the modern trucks is the 6.4L HEMI V8. Read the 8th VIN digit — the FCA engine code — to confirm which you have before buying an engine or matching a transmission.
The transmission has to match the engine and the drivetrain. The gas HEMI trucks use a Chrysler/TorqueFlite automatic, while the diesel is paired with a heavy-duty automatic — the 68RFE on many 6.7L trucks, and an Aisin heavy-duty six-speed automatic on the higher-output diesel. A ZF-based manual (the G56 six-speed) was offered behind the Cummins in the earlier trucks. A used gearbox must match your engine, the exact variant, and 2WD vs 4WD.
On 4x4 trucks the 2500 uses a solid (live) front axle — a Dana 60 — unlike the independent front suspension of light-duty trucks, so its front axle, steering and suspension parts are HD-specific and do not cross from a 1500. Match the transfer case and axle ratio to your build — a mismatched front-to-rear ratio causes driveline bind. Send the full VIN so the engine, transmission, transfer case and axles all line up.
Known issues that drive used-part demand
- Used diesel emissions parts are the biggest compliance trap on this truck. The 6.7L Cummins is emissions-controlled with a diesel particulate filter (DPF), EGR, and on later trucks DEF/SCR after-treatment. A used DPF, SCR catalyst, EGR part or the diesel itself must meet EPA and your state's rules — used emissions components are not legal everywhere, and CARB and state programs differ. Route any diesel-emissions work to a shop that can verify compliance for your state; never assume a used part is 'legal everywhere.'
- The 6.4L HEMI gas V8 uses MDS (Multi-Displacement System) cylinder deactivation under light load, and the deactivation hardware is worth having a mechanic inspect on a used engine. Listen for a top-end tick and review oil history before buying a used gas long block, and route any tick or misfire to a mechanic.
- The Cummins is a high-mileage engine when maintained, but the injection system, turbo and emissions hardware are the expensive wear points — buy a used diesel with documented history, and have a compression/leak-down and injection check done before purchase. Reputation aside, have a mechanic verify the specific truck rather than trusting the badge.
Safety- and emissions-related parts should be diagnosed and installed by a licensed mechanic.

Why Buy Used Ram 2500 Parts?
A used part can be a lower-cost alternative to new OEM for a Ram 2500. Compare condition, fitment, warranty and return terms, shipping, and final price before deciding whether an option is right for your repair.
- Vehicle details — include your VIN or full Ram 2500 configuration for fitment review.
- Terms before purchase — review the written warranty and return terms.
- Shipping options — confirm the applicable method, timing, and cost for your destination.

Used Ram 2500 Parts — FAQ
Does my Ram 2500 have a 5.9 or a 6.7 Cummins?
It depends on the year: the 5.9L Cummins ran through early 2007 and the 6.7L Cummins took over from the 2007.5 model year onward. Read the 8th digit of the VIN — the FCA engine code — to confirm before buying an engine, because the two diesels and their emissions hardware differ.
Will a Ram 1500 engine, transmission or front axle fit my 2500?
No. The 2500 is a heavy-duty truck with HD-specific engines, HD automatics like the 68RFE and an Aisin heavy-duty six-speed, and a solid Dana 60 front axle on 4x4s, none of which cross from the light-duty 1500. Match parts to the 2500's own generation, engine code and drivetrain by VIN.
Can I put a used DPF or diesel emissions part on my 6.7 Cummins?
Only if it meets EPA and your state's rules — used emissions components are not legal everywhere, and CARB and state programs differ. The 6.7L Cummins runs a DPF and, on later trucks, DEF/SCR after-treatment, so route emissions work to a shop that can verify compliance for your state.
Do Ram 2500 Power Wagon parts fit a regular Ram 2500 4x4?
Many do not. Ram lists the Power Wagon Equipment Group on the 4x4 2500 only, with Articulink front suspension, Tru-Lok locking front and rear axles, a front disconnecting stabilizer bar, a 12,000-pound winch and 4.10 gears. The 2019 specifications show locking differentials in both axles on the Power Wagon alone. Match the package, not the 2500 badge.
Which Ram 2500 years came with the G56 six-speed manual?
Through 2018, and only behind the diesel. Ram's 2018 2500 specifications list the G56 manual six-speed as available with the 6.7-liter engine, rated 350 horsepower and 660 lb-ft, while the 2019 heavy-duty specifications list only automatics: the 68RFE, the Aisin AS69RC and the ZF 8HP75. A manual truck's clutch, flywheel, pedal assembly and shifter have no automatic counterpart.
Is my gas Ram 2500 a 5.7 or a 6.4 HEMI, and do their parts cross?
Both were sold, and they are different engines. Ram's 2018 2500 specifications list a 5.7 HEMI at 383 horsepower on a 10.5:1 compression ratio with plain hydraulic lifters, and a 6.4 HEMI at 410 horsepower on 10.0:1 with eight deactivating lifters for cylinder deactivation. By 2019 the specifications list the 6.4 alone. Read the eighth VIN digit before ordering.
Do Ram 2500 Mega Cab and Crew Cab parts interchange?
Not the cab. Ram's 2019 heavy-duty specifications put the Mega Cab on a 160.5-inch wheelbase and the short-box Crew Cab on 149.5 inches, both carrying the same 6-foot-4 box, so the extra 11 inches is all cab. Rear doors, rear glass, the rear roof and the rear interior are Mega Cab parts. Front-end, powertrain and box parts are far likelier to cross. Send the VIN with your quote request.
