About This Driveshaft

A used driveshaft is a sound repair for worn U-joints, a collapsed centre support bearing or a dented tube — as long as you treat length, joint configuration and balance as hard fitment keys. Length is set by the exact drivetrain layout, not the badge on the tailgate: a one-piece shaft is measured from the transmission output to the differential yoke, a two-piece in two segments (output to the centre of the support bearing, then bearing to yoke), and one-piece designs are used on shorter-wheelbase vehicles. Joint style is the second key — some shafts run conventional U-joints, while high-articulation four-wheel-drive driveshafts often use double-Cardan joints in place of Rzeppa constant-velocity joints. The third, and the one that catches used buyers out, is balance: a driveshaft is balanced as a complete assembly, and phasing exists to hold vibration down and extend driveline, transmission and axle life.

Because every driveshaft quote is matched to your Honda Civic by VIN, you get a part that fits the first time and keeps your repair on budget.

How Pricing Is Determined

Pricing for used driveshaft depends on several factors:

A driveshaft quote follows configuration far more than cosmetics: one-piece versus two-piece with a centre support bearing, the length your wheelbase and cab or bed layout calls for, the joint style at each end, and whether the joints and centre bearing are fresh or original. Long shafts are bulky, awkward items, so packaging and freight are a real part of the delivered figure. We quote against your VIN rather than publishing prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a used driveshaft vibrate even though it fits?

Yes — this is the main risk. A driveshaft is balanced as a complete assembly, so one that has been apart, lost balance weights, has broken weld beads or is caked in dirt, paint or undercoating can shake on a car it otherwise bolts straight into.

Is same year and model enough to order the right driveshaft?

No. Length is set by that vehicle's drivetrain layout — wheelbase, cab and bed configuration, transmission and rear axle — and one-piece shafts are used on shorter wheelbases. Measure yours and match the end fittings.

One-piece or two-piece — how do I tell which I need?

Look underneath. A two-piece shaft is carried mid-span by a centre support bearing and is measured in two segments: transmission output to the centre of that bearing, then bearing to the differential yoke. A one-piece runs uninterrupted, in one span.

How do I know the vibration is even the driveshaft?

Get it diagnosed first. A shaft can be field-balanced by clamping a hose clamp to the tube and rotating it through four marked positions to see whether the vibration changes; if it does not change in any of the four, the driveshaft may not be the source at all. Driveline work belongs with a professional shop.

Can I run a slightly longer driveshaft if the slip yoke takes up the difference?

No - length is a safety figure, not a fitting tolerance. Spicer works out a shaft's safe operating RPM from its style and series, the tube diameter and the distance between joint centres, and warns that a shaft running above that speed could fail and be thrown from under the vehicle. Being out of balance lowers the threshold again.

Do the U-joints on a used driveshaft need greasing before it goes in?

Greaseable ones do. Spicer's procedure is to apply grease until fresh grease appears at every bearing seal, which also purges contamination; service-free joints ship pre-lubed and are left alone. The fasteners matter as much - Spicer warns that reusing self-locking or serrated-head bolts, or failing to torque them, can let the shaft separate from the vehicle.

My old shaft used 1310 U-joints - does the replacement have to match?

Yes, and it is measured rather than guessed. A Spicer series number is a set of dimensions - bearing cap diameter and the span across the caps. In Spicer's own kit catalogue a 1310 and a 1330 use 1.063 inch caps while a 1350 uses larger 1.188 inch caps, which is why Spicer sells conversion joints to marry two series. Measure yours with a caliper or micrometer.

How is compatibility verified?

Provide your VIN or full vehicle details so you can review the fitment basis in your quote before approving a purchase.

What if the part does not fit?

Most suppliers offer limited return or exchange options. Warranty and return terms are confirmed before purchase.

How long does shipping take?

Shipping time varies by location, part size, and freight arrangement. Confirm the dispatch and delivery estimate in your quote.
